Mutual Aid to Westminter; Motor Vehicle Collision with Rescue 1900 Block of Nicodemus Road

At 1:06am units from the Westminster Fire Department were alerted for a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision in the 1900 Block of Nicodemus Road. Minutes after dispatch Rescue Squad 9 (Reese) and an Engine from New Windsor were added as the incident was now reported to be a MVC with entrapment. Paramedic 37 and Engine 33 arrived to find a single vehicle versus tree with one occupant heavily entrapped in the vehicle. Lieutenant 3-4 (K. Utz) established Nicodemus Road Command until relieved by Chief 3 (J. Bangerd). Engine 102 arrived and the crew went to work stabilizing the vehicle and assisting with the extrication. Command requested a second advanced life support unit, Maryland State Police Aviation, the "Go Team" (a special team of Doctors and Nurses from the University of Maryland Hospital who respond to incident scenes to assist on extended extrications) and Baltimore Gas and Electric. The patient was extricated 34 minutes from the arrival of the first fire department unit and the patient was moved to an awaiting ambulance. In all two patients were transported to Shock Trauma via MSP Aviation. Engine 102 operated for an hour and 45 minutes before returning to quarters.
