The Auxiliary to the New Windsor Fire Department works tirelessly year after year to support the Fire Department. Events like dinners, apple dumpling and crab cake sales as well as catering help the Auxiliary raise funds. The Auxiliary started 2018 off with a bang by donating over $17,000 worth of equipment to be used for cleaning and drying firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE). The washer/extractor and drying cabinet were purchased through Hynes and Waller of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The new units will allow firefighters to return from a fire, wash their PPE, dry it, and have it back in service in under 3 hours.

Cancer in firefighters across the nation is on the rise and one of the identified preventative measures is regular washing of PPE after a fire. The purchase made by the auxiliary will help to improve the health and safety of New Windsor Firefighters for years to come. The members of the New Windsor Fire Department would like to thank the members of the Auxiliary for their continued outpouring of support!
