Engine and Medic to the 2 Alarm House Fire in Mt Airy

At 4:16pm on Wednesday January 24th units from Mt. Airy, Winfield, Lisbon, New Windsor and Sykesville were dispatched to the 5800 Block of Cabbage Spring Road for a reported house on fire. Captain 10 (S. Kreimer) who was in the area and responding as the command support officer arrived to find a large 2 1/2 story with heavy fire showing. Chief 1-2 (J. Lowman) arrived immediately after and established the Cabbage Spring Road Command and requested the rapid intervention dispatch, a tanker task force and eventually the second alarm bringing units from the four county region to battle the blaze. The fire was initially fought from a defensive posture utilizing large hose streams and the ladder pipe from Tower 12. As the fire was knocked down personnel moved tot he interior to complete the firefight and mop up any hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
