With units operating on a two alarm house fire in Mt Airy, structure alarm 10-14 was sounded at 4:29pm on Wednesday January 24th sending units from New Windsor and Union Bridge to a reported detached garage fire in the 3300 Block of Hooper Road. Engine 102 arrived to find a 20' x 50' detached garage well involved with exposure concerns on two sides of the building. Chief 10-1 (M. Moser) established the Hooper Road Command and requested the remainder of the box alarm assignment as well as the tanker task force. The crew from Engine 102 deployed a 2" handline and moved to protect the exposures. As both additional manpower and water arrived additional lines were placed into service to extinguish the fire that had consumed the garage. The New Windsor units operated for 3 hours prior to returning to service and the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
