NWFD Sends Members to Assist With Technical Animal Rescue in Woodsboro

At 2:30pm Frederick County Emergency Communications dispatched a Miscellaneous Rescue for a Trapped Horse in the 11200 Block of Creagerstown Road in Woodsboro. Units from Woodsboro arrived to find a horse who had fallen into a 8 foot deep sink hole. Attempts to dig the horse out prior to fire department arrival were unsuccessful. Frederick County Chief 16 (Derry) established command and immediately requested the assistance of the Frederick County Advanced Technical Rescue Team (ATR). As additional Frederick County units arrived the assistance of the Carroll County ATR team was requested bringing Utility 10 with 3 Technicians to the scene. Both Technical Teams worked together with units from Woodsboro, New Midway, Walkersville and the Days End Farm Large Animal Rescue Team to make the area safe and to shore the hole prior to the successful extrication of the horse. Utility 10 operated on the scene for 5 hours prior to returning to service.
