| At 3:15 in the afternoon the Carroll County 911 Center dispatched units to the intersection of Route 194 and Brown Road for the Tractor Trailer leaking diesel fuel into the waterway. First arriving Ladder 5 arrived to find an tractor trailer who had gone off the roadway into a drainage ditch and ruptured one of its 150 gallon saddle tank. Lieutenant 5-3 (R. Krebs) established the Route 194 command and held the Station 5 units and the Haz-Mat Team. Quick work from the first arriving units stopped the diesel from going into the waterway. The Haz-Hat Team worked with the units from Station 5 to secure the leak, mitigate the spill and pump off the remaining diesel fuel into auxiliary containers. Units operated on the scene for just over 2 hours and the scene was turned over to the Maryland Department of the Environment. |
