While returning home from the Hospital on a rainy Monday afternoon, Medic 109 witnessed a State Highway Flat Bed Tractor Trailer lose control, jack-knife and take out a large section of guardrail on North Bound Route 27 at Kate Wagner Road. The personnel from Medic 109 immediately stopped to check for injuries at the single vehicle collision. The truck's occupant's were uninjured however both of the truck's saddle tanks had ruptured, spewing diesel fuel on to the ground. The crew from Medic 109 requested an Engine and Haz Mat 30 to assist in the containment of the spill. Crews from the Westminster Fire Department and the Haz Mat Team worked to pump off the remaining diesel fuel and contain the diesel fuel run-off. The Haz-Mat units operated on the scene for 2 hours prior to turning over the scene to the Maryland Department of the Environment.
