| On Saturday April 30thThe New Windsor Fire Department Junior's traveled to the Carroll County Fire Training Center to participate in "Junior Day 2011". The annual event allows Juniors from all over the county to gather for a day of training and fun. The day started off with an overview of the Carroll County Haz Mat Team, a demonstration from Mike Berry and his Urban Search and Rescue Dog named Pierce and an Auto Extrication display. The Juniors were then split into groups where they participated in skills stations. The groups participated in overland repelling with the Carroll County ATR team, practiced search and rescue skills, ladder climbing skills, participated in some EMS scenarios and climbed through the Training Center's Maze. After a lunch, which was provided by several generous donations, the Juniors participated in competitions against the Juniors from other Carroll County Departments. New Windsor's Juniors placed 5th overall (out of 11 departments). Thanks to all who participated and special thanks to the Junior advisors and organizers who set this event up. The New Windsor Junior Fire Department is an organization of 12-18 year olds who are interested in participating in Emergency Services. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month and frequently participates in training related to emergency services, fundraising and community services events. We are always looking for new members, if you're interested in joining the NWFD Juniors stop by the station and pick up an application! |
