Haz Mat Team to Woodbine for the Leaking Underground Propane Tank

At 10:42am units from the Winfield Fire Department were dispatched to the 1600 Block of Calico Drive in Woodbine for a report of an underground propane tank leaking. Upon arrival the Winfield units found that a vehicle had struck the valve and piping of a 500 gallon propane tank and confirmed a leak. Chief 14-2 (M. Davis) established Calico Drive Command and requested the Haz-Mat Assignment be filled brining units from Mt Airy, Sykesville, Lisbon (Howard County) and the Carroll County Haz-Mat Team to the scene. Calico Drive Command also requested the assistance of a local propane vendor to the scene. Crews worked with the vendor to safety flare, or burn off the remaining fuel in the tank. Crews also metered the air in the area to maintain a safe work area. Units operated on the scene for 4 hours prior to leaving the scene, the vendor remained on scene for more than 24 hours until the tank was empty and could be repaired.
