At 6:58pm Paramedic 149, Engine 142, Engine 102 (as an extrication piece) and Rescue Squad 9 were dispatched to the 2600 block of Nicodemus Road for the report of a Motor Vehicle Collision with Entrapment. The initial report of a single vehicle collision with two trapped prompted Carroll County Emergency Communications to add Paramedic 139 to the incident. Paramedic 149 and Engine 142 arrived to confirm a single vehicle off the roadway on its side in the woods with two people trapped. Chief 14-1 (Legore) established the Nicodemus Road Command and the crews from Winfield went to work accessing the patients. Engine 102 arrived and was directed to begin stabilizing the car which was found in a very precarious position. The Rescue Engine crew used their ART Struts and a built a "tie-back" using a come-along and a near by tree. Crews from Winfield, New Windsor and Reese all worked together to cut the roof off of the car to access and free both patients. Once freed, the patients were placed into a stokes basket and carried to the awaiting medic units. One patient was transported to Shock Trauma via Paramedic 139. The second patient was moved by Paramedic 149 to a field close by the scene and transferred to Trooper 1 (MSP Aviation) who transported the patient to Shock Trauma.
