At 09:11am on Saturday January 20th units from Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley, New Windsor and Hampstead were alerted for a report of a smoke in the building in the 300 Block of Pleasanton Road in Westminster. First arriving Engine 33 found smoke showing from a three story apartment building. The crew from Engine 33 quickly extinguished a small fire in the bedroom of a second floor apartment. As crews from Westminster and Reese were taking care of overhaul and ventilation it was discovered that an adult occupant of the fire apartment had sustained burns. That patient was quickly cared for by emergency medical services personnel and a Maryland State Police Helicopter was requested for transport of the patient to a burn center. Engine 101 who initially had assumed Rapid Intervention responsibilities was diverted to the Carroll County Regional Airport to establish a landing site for Trooper 3. The patient was transported to the Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore.
