At 11:30hrs while members were serving lunch at the annual NWFD Carnival, the New Windsor and Union Bridge Fire Departments were dispatched to the 3900 Block of Hawks Hill Road for a reported tractor on fire near a building. First arriving Chief 10-1 (M. Moser) found a fully involved farm tractor with the fire extending into the building. There was also a rolling diesel fuel fire running down the roadway. Chief 10-1 requested the box alarm assignment and established the Hawks Hill Road Command. Engine 101 arrived and quickly put two lines in service to knock down the tractor fire as well as cut off the horizontal fire spread into the building. Engine 102 arrived and supplied water to Engine 101 while their crew pulled a third attack line and assisted with overhaul. The fire was placed under control 22 minutes after the arrival of the fire department. Hawks Hill Road requested the assistance of the Carroll County Haz-Mat Team, Potomac Edison, Carroll County Roads Department as well as the Maryland Department of the Environment. With the fire extinguished work began to contain a small fuel spill. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The New Windsor units operated on the scene for just over 2 hours.
