The New Windsor Fire Department has recently learned of the death of two New Windsor Community Icons, past Town Mayor Sam Pierce and past Carroll County Commissioner Dave Roush. Both Mayor Pierce and Commissioner Roush have been long time supporters of the New Windsor Fire Department and help contribute the success of the organization.

Mr. Samuel M. Pierce, passed away on August 22, 2018 in Delaware at the age of 85. Mayor Sam Pierce served as the mayor of the Town of New Windsor from 2001 to 2009, and then on the Town Council from 2009 to 2013. In addition to serving the town of New Windsor, Mayor Pierce was very active in the community serving with the New Windsor Lions Club and the New Windsor Heritage Committee. Mayor Pierce was an active supporter of the New Windsor Fire Department and would often help out at several of the department fundraisers including the department's annual carnival held the first week in June. In addition to supporting the Fire Department at it's fundraisers Mayor Pierce even served as our Santa Claus during our Santa Runs in December for several years

Mr. David Roush passed away on August 27, 2019. Past Commissioner Dave Roush before becoming a Carroll County Commissioner served as the plant manager for Lehigh Portland Cement in Union Bridge. During his time as the plant manager at Lehigh, he developed a strong working relationship with all of the local volunteer fire departments in the area. Past Commissioner Roush even served as the Capital Campaign Chairman for our new station located at 101High Street, helping secure the necessary funds to build our current station.

The Officers and Members of the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company #1 send our sincere condolences to the families of Past Mayor Sam Pierce and Past Commissioner Dave Roush.
