With the current pandemic going on, two of our newest senior firefighters, Zach Ruth and Madalyn Burton, had an unusual graduation. The New Windsor Volunteer Fire & Hose Co. No. 1 would like to congratulate them on a job well done. We have watched these two develop into capable and well rounded firefighters.

Zach has graduated from Westminster High School and the Carroll County Career and Technology Center (CCCTC) Welding program. Zach joined us almost a year ago as a Junior firefighter, and quickly began taking the necessary classes to become a firefighter. Zach didn’t hesitate once he had passed the required classes to start doing training at the firehouse, acting as a riding member and continuing to learn the equipment and apparatus. After getting a few months of firefighting experience Zach is actively pursuing his EMT. Now that he has graduated, Zach plans on attending Montgomery County Community College to study fire science, with the intention of becoming a career firefighter.

Madalyn has graduated from Francis Scott Key High School and CCCTC Academy of Health: Nursing program where she obtained her CNA and GNA. She joined as a Junior firefighter a year and a half ago, participating for over six months before pursuing fire classes to become a senior member. Following completion of her training, Madalyn has been an active riding member. Madalyn is also pursuing her EMT, while making full use of her nursing assistant skills at Lorien in Taneytown. She has been accepted into Penn State Mont Alto to continue her nursing education with hopes of obtaining her BSN as she pursues her goal of becoming a trauma or flight nurse.

We are extremely proud of our two graduating seniors for conquering high school and working towards their dreams. We wish you the best of luck in college and your future careers! Congratulations again!!
