The New Windsor Fire Department is proud to announce the department has been awarded a Federal Emergency Management "Assistance to Firefighters Grant" of over $10,000.00 to improve overall operations and safety for the department. The department was notified on Friday, August 14, 2020 by FEMA of the grant and was awarded $10, 215.30 to help improve overall operations and safety within the organization. The funds awarded from this grant will go towards the purchasing of 13 new nozzles and two integrated thermal imaging face masks.

The Department is appreciative of this grant, especially during these trying times with current pandemic, and limited fundraising opportunities. This grant will make sure that we have the most modern nozzles available, as some of our current nozzles are over 15 years old. In addition to the updated equipment, the grant will allow us to increase our safety on the fire ground with the purchase of two integrated thermal imaging face masks.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, was established by Title XVII of the FY 2001 National Defense Authorization Act and is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The goal of this grant is to provide federal grants directly to local fire departments to help address a variety of equipment, training, and other firefighter related and EMS needs.

The New Windsor Fire Department would like to thank Lieutenant Brad Kreimer and Grants Committee Chairman Neal Roop for all their hard work, an helping the department receive this much needed funding.
