On Saturday November 14th Engine 102 moved to the Mt Airy Fire Station to provide coverage while their members attended training on their new ladder truck. The crew from New Windsor was put to work at 4:32pm when box alarm 1-15 was sounded for the kitchen fire in the 200 Block of West Manor Court in Mt Airy. Lieutenant 1-3 (Russo) was the first to arrive and reported a 2 story middle of the group townhome with smoke showing from the rear. Lieutenant 1-3 established the West Manor Court Command and requested the rapid intervention dispatch. Engine 102 arrived, pulled an attack line and began to force entry through the front door. Access through the front door proved challenging due to Collyer’s mansion conditions. Engine 152 arrived as the second due engine company and stretched a line to the rear of the structure and made quick work of a fire in the kitchen. Searches proved negative and the first alarm companies worked together to complete overhaul and ventilation. One occupant was displaced by the fire and was being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office. The crew from New Windsor operated at the scene for 3 hours prior to returning to service.
