| Just after 9:07 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Engine 102 from the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1 was alerted to assist the Westminster Fire Department with a reported house fire in the 100 block of Smith Avenue. Within three minutes, Engine 102 was on the road with a crew of four personnel — including three volunteers and one Department of Fire and EMS firefighter. While units were enroute, Battalion Chief 101 (Halterman) arrived on scene, establishing Smith Avenue Command and reporting smoke showing from the front side of the residence. Engine 31 arrived moments later and confirmed a working kitchen fire, quickly deploying handlines and beginning fire attack operations. Upon arrival, Engine 102 was designated as the third-due engine company, tasked with primary search operations, assisting with opening up walls and ceilings, and ventilating the structure to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and conditions were safe for overhaul. New Windsor firefighters operated on scene for approximately 45 minutes before being released by command and returning to service. |
