The New Windsor Fire Department is proud to announce that Firefighter Nikolaus “Nik” Vogel was recognized as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year during the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS 2026 Awards Ceremony.

This prestigious recognition reflects Nik’s outstanding dedication, work ethic, and commitment to serving both the department and the community throughout the past year.

Since joining the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1, Firefighter Vogel has quickly distinguished himself as a highly dependable and motivated member of the organization. Over the course of 2025, he successfully completed Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Operations, and all of his probationary requirements, building a strong operational foundation and positioning himself for continued success in the fire service.

Nik’s commitment to professional growth has continued well beyond his initial training. He is currently enrolled in EMT training, where he continues to excel and further expand his ability to serve the community through patient care and emergency medical response.

Throughout the year, Firefighter Vogel has been one of the department’s most active incident responders, consistently answering the call for both fire and EMS emergencies. He has also accumulated more standby hours than any other operational member of the company, demonstrating an exceptional level of availability, dedication, and commitment to the mission of the department.

On several complex incidents, Nik displayed strong critical thinking, calm decision-making, and emerging leadership qualities that far exceed what is typically expected of a firefighter so early in his career. His ability to perform under pressure and contribute meaningfully on the emergency scene has made him a valuable asset to the organization.

In addition to his emergency response efforts, Nik has also taken on a meaningful role in helping newer members succeed. Whether assisting with fire skills training, helping others become comfortable with station routines, or simply leading by example, he has become a positive influence within the department. He works seamlessly alongside both volunteer and career personnel and has earned the respect of his peers and officers through his professionalism, teamwork, and positive attitude.

Nik’s service extends beyond emergency incidents and station responsibilities. He has also represented the department at public education and community events, helping strengthen the relationship between the fire department and the citizens we proudly serve. His professionalism, eagerness to learn, and willingness to contribute wherever needed make him an outstanding representative of the fire service.

Firefighter Vogel’s dedication, character, and performance reflect the highest standards of both the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1 and the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Nikolaus Vogel on being named the 2025 Firefighter of the Year. This award is a well-deserved recognition of his hard work, commitment, and bright future in the fire service.

Congratulations, Nik!
