| As winter weather moved into the Maryland region on January 25 and January 26, members of the New Windsor Fire Department and the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS worked diligently to prepare for and respond to the impacts of the storm affecting Carroll County.
In the hours leading up to the snowfall, crews were busy around the station ensuring all apparatus and equipment were fully staffed and ready for service. Members checked vehicles, reviewed response plans, and made preparations to ensure uninterrupted emergency services throughout the storm.
Beyond emergency readiness, department members also played a key role in supporting partner agencies. Crews assisted with providing meals to personnel working at the Carroll County Emergency Operations Center as well as the road crews from the Town of New Windsor who were out treating and clearing roadways to keep the community safe.
As conditions worsened, a National Guard Humvee was assigned to the New Windsor area to assist with emergency operations. The specialized vehicle ensured that responders could safely access emergency scenes despite hazardous road conditions and deep snowfall, reinforcing the coordinated effort between local, county, and state resources.
Throughout the storm, the New Windsor Fire Department remained committed to serving the community by maintaining operational readiness and supporting those working around the clock to manage the effects of the winter weather. These efforts highlight the dedication of our members and the strong partnerships that exist among emergency services and public works agencies during times of severe weather.
The department extends its thanks to all personnel and partner agencies who worked together to keep New Windsor and Carroll County safe during this winter storm event |
