Department Mourns the Death of Life Member J. Edward "Eddie" Green

The New Windsor Fire and Hose Company #1 regrets to announce the passing of Life Member J. Edward "Eddie" Green on Friday, January 8, 2021. Eddie was a dedicated member of the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company #1 for 67 years, and could often be found hanging out at the station playing solitaire, and assisting the department in anyway possible. The department sends our sincere condolences to Ms. Kitty and the entire Green Family on the loss of Eddie, a New Windsor icon that that will be surely missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near New Windsor.


J. Edward Green, age 87, of New Windsor, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown after an extended illness. Born May 17, 1933 in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Monroe and Lizzie Few Green. He was the husband of Kathryn ‘Kitty” Dale Green, his wife of 67 years.

Eddie was a 1953 graduate of New Windsor High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. He was employed with Lehigh Portland Cement Co., Union Bridge, for 30 years. Eddie was of the Brethren faith and was a 67-year member of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. where he enjoyed spending mornings when his health permitted. He was a life member of American Legion Post #31 of Westminster for 54 years and a social member of V.F.W. Post #8806, Union Bridge. He enjoyed attending auctions with Johnny Obrecht as his “side kick” and loved watching sports and his game shows on television.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son, Bruce E. Green and wife Kim of Westminster; daughter-in-law, Sandy Vleck of New Windsor; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and 2 special cousins, Morgan Ilgenfritz and wife Joyce and Charlotte Marshall and husband Bob. He will also be remembered by special friends, Linda Eicholtz (and her late husband Bill) and all of his fire company family. He was predeceased by son, Dale L. Green on January 2, 2011.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near New Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 247, New Windsor, MD 21776.
